Register a Mobile Device

Print users can release and submit documents from a secure printer using the HP Secure Print mobile app. The app is available for iOS and Android mobile devices.

Step 1: Download and install the HP Secure Print mobile app on your mobile device.

You can download the app from the Apple App Store(iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

Step 2: Register your email address

Register your email for HP Secure Print if you haven't already done so.

The way in which users register for Secure Release depends on the authentication provider set up in the Settings screen.

Note: With Active Directory authentication, users simply send documents to the Secure Printer. User registration is not required.

Step 3: Register your mobile device

The process of registering a device varies depending on your authentication method.

For Email Authentication and Active Directory Authentication, a Print Scout is required. Users must scan a QR code to sign in and register their mobile devices for Secure Print.

For OpenID Authentication, Print Scouts are not required to be installed on user workstations and users register the device by entering their email address.

Option A: Email Authentication or Active Directory Authentication

  1. Right-click on the HP Secure Print desktop app icon and then select the Register a Mobile Device option.

  2. This will open the Register a Mobile Device dialog box, displaying a QR code.

  3. In the mobile app, after reviewing the Privacy Statement, click Continue, then select your region. Select I have a QR Code option at the bottom of the screen and then scan the QR code shown in the dialog box on your workstation.

Your mobile device is now registered.

  4. After a successful device registration, you will be redirected to the mobile app and should now have access to the app’s features and functions.

  5. Walk up to a Secure Print enabled printer and then using your mobile device, scan the QR code attached to the printer to release the test page.

Option B: OpenID Authentication (SSO)

For SSO to work on mobile app, user accounts must already exist in the HP Insights, whether through user registration, user import, or SCIM import.

Note: Logging out of the mobile app will require users to re-register their device with HP Secure Print.

  1. Open the mobile app. After reviewing the Privacy Statement, click Continue.

  1. Enter your email address, choose your region, and then click Sign In.

  1. After a successful device registration, you will be redirected to the mobile app and should now have access to the app’s features and functions.
